Sony Ericsson trademarks the “Xperia Ion” name

Earlier this week it was revealed through a Bluetooth SIG listing that Sony Ericsson is prepping to release their first “superphone”, currently called the LT28at. The specs are impressive, if the description is accurate we’ll see this come LTE-capable, have a 4.55-inch 720p display and a 13MP camera. A name of this Xperia device might have been uncovered, according to a December 13th trademark filing (Serial Number: 85493863) Sony Ericsson has registered the name “Xperia Ion”. This new device and others will most likely make its appearance at the upcoming CES 2012 show in January. Sony Ericsson is scheduled their keynote presentation for Monday, January 9th at 5:00pm – we’ll be there live.

Just for kicks, I looked up the definition of Ion: “An atom or molecule with a net electric charge due to the loss or gain of one or more electrons.”
